RAF MILDENHALL, England – The military demands, among other traits, adaptability and resilience of its service members and their families. A prime example of this is the ability to continue the mission and have their lives in order, while being tasked to move from one duty station to the next. Some will say moving is exciting and refreshing, but maybe with an undertone of stress and anxiety.

The RAF Mildenhall Airman and Family Readiness Center offers an “EZ PCS” seminar at least once a month, throughout the entire year.

“The EZ PCS seminar is aimed to alleviate some of the stressors involved in a permanent change of station by providing an opportunity to gather relevant and up-to-date information to make effective plans for your next adventure,” said Melissa Hardinge, 100th Force Support Squadron AFRC relocation manager.

The AFRC is dedicated to providing guidance through life’s challenges, which include moving across the country or across the pond.

“Relocation is rarely simple, so a successful PCS move requires lots of planning and making informed decisions,” explained Hardinge. “When you get the notice that you're moving, at first you're probably very excited about it, but along with the excitement comes the overwhelming feeling that there are so many things to do!”

Those who are preparing to move couldn’t agree more.

“I found the seminar to be very helpful,” said Tech. Sgt. Koert Lyman, 100th Air Refueling Wing Safety occupational safety manager. “I was able to get answers for many of my questions and concerns that I have about moving.”

For those who have experienced a PCS move, there is a familiarity with a checklist that requires coordination with multiple agencies around the base. That is why the EZ PCS seminar is organized to allow future movers to meet with some of those agencies in one location.

“The class is organized in collaboration with various base agencies to meet in one convenient location, which can save you time having to visit or contact each organization to get the initial information you need,” said Hardinge. “The agencies involved are key to making a successful move; which include finance, traffic management office outbound, TMO passenger travel, housing, and tricare.”
