Family of WWII veterans visit RAF Mildenhall to trace footsteps, memories
This photo, taken in 1939, shows Wing Commander Richard Kellett, 149 Squadron pilot, during his time at RAF Mildenhall, England, during World War II. Kellett was the lead pilot in a combined force of Wellington bombers from RAF Mildenhall, RAF Feltwell and RAF Honington, which carried out daylight bombing raids during the Battle of Heligoland Bight, Germany, Dec. 18, 1939. The Battle of Heligoland Bight was the first named battle of World War II. (Courtesy photo)
