8/31/2012 - RAF MILDENHALL, England -- The 100th Air Refueling Wing will be holding its operational readiness exercise Sept. 11 and 12, with many of the squadrons here actively participating.
Phase I of the ORE, the deployment phase, will be held Sept. 5 to 7. The main part of the exercise - Phase II - will involve wartime operations training and will be the bulk of the ORE, according to Staff Sgt. David Rodriguez, 100th ARW Wing Exercises NCO in charge.
The initial phase measures 100th ARW personnel's readiness to leave and travel to the deployed location, while Phase II means simulating RAF Mildenhall is where it needs to be and we're practicing our skills, he said.
"The exercise is internal and will be inspected by exercise evaluation team members from all units," Rodriguez said. "They will be checking units are able to process their people and equipment, and that unit members can survive and operate during contingency and wartime operations."
The NCOIC suggested members can prepare for the ORE by ensuring they have the proper gear and by practicing scenarios that focus on topics such as self-aid and buddy care, and ability-to-survive-and-operate procedures.
"All squadrons from the 100th ARW attended the ATSO rodeo which was very successful and gave them an idea of what to expect," he said. "Phase II of the ORE involves mini exercises and drills to practice our wartime skills."
