9/11/2012 - RAF MILDENHALL, England -- In honor of all individuals who are former Prisoners of War, Service members and civilians still unaccounted for, and their families, the Prisoner of War/Missing in Action Week of Remembrance is scheduled from Sept. 14 to 21. Events include the Rolling Thunder motorcycle rally, a 24-hour vigil and luncheon with guest speakers.

"It's important to take time out of our busy schedules to honor those who have served before us and made sacrifices for us and our country," said Master Sgt. Jener Tiongson, POW/MIA committee member and 100th Force Support Squadron career assistance advisor.

Tiongson has been on the committee for a year and said he wanted to get involved in order to give something back to others.

"It's a reminder of the personal freedom others sacrificed so my family and I can live in this free society," he said.

Events for the week are as follows:

Sept. 14: 5K formation run - The run begins at 3:30 p.m. and starts at the Hardstand Fitness Center. There will be prizes for the top male and female runners, along with a Unit Spirit Award. Wearing of the black POW/MIA t-shirt is authorized with Air Force PT shorts.

Sept. 18: Rolling Thunder motorcycle rally - The joint RAF Mildenhall and RAF Lakenheath motorcycle ride is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. at the Galaxy Club. Motorcyclists will ride to eight locations, including Madingley American Cemetery and memorials at Mildenhall, Newmarket, Bury St. Edmunds, Lakenheath, Diss and Mundford. The motorcycle rally will end with a barbecue at Defender Park, RAF Lakenheath, at 4 p.m.

Sept. 19: POW/MIA Fallen Comrades luncheon - Starting at 11 a.m. in the Galaxy Club ballroom, guest speakers will be RAF veterans and former Stalag Luft III POWs, Air Commodore Charles Clarke, and Andrew Wiseman. This will be followed from 2 to 4 p.m. by an interactive presentation with Dr. Howard Tuck, 352nd Special Operations Group honorary commander, and the two guest speakers. Dress is uniform of the day.

Sept. 20: 24-hour vigil - Starting at 4:15 p.m., names of those still listed as missing will be read aloud at the POW/MIA Memorial across from the 100th Air Refueling Wing headquarters building,

Sept. 21: Retreat ceremony - Scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at the flagpoles in front of Bldg. 239. Dress is uniform of the day and volunteers are required for formation.
