IDEA earns 100th AMXS maintainer $10,000
RAF MILDENHALL, England – Tech. Sgt. Blake Cushing, 100th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron flightline expeditor, poses with a hydraulic return filter assembly, and 36 quarts of hydraulic fluid. Cushing recently earned $10,000 through the Innovative Development through Employee Awareness program, after realizing it was not necessary to drain the reservoirs after every 900 flight-hour check when filters are changed. Until recently, during the inspection process the reservoirs were drained and 36 quarts of hydraulic fluid was replaced each time. The cans of hydraulic fluid shown above represent the amount saved during each inspection, through not having to drain the reservoirs. (U.S. Air Force photo/Karen Abeyasekere)

His idea will save the Air Force in excess of $132,000 per year.
