Col. Robert A. Shelton is the commander of the 100th Operations Group and the 401st Air Expeditionary Group, Royal Air Force Mildenhall, United Kingdom.  The 100th OG is responsible for the planning, scheduling and execution of all U.S. Air Forces in Europe air refueling operations as well as the mission readiness, mobilization, employment, training and standardization of 15 KC-135R Stratotanker aircraft and 245 permanently assigned aircrew and support personnel.  The 401st AEG is responsible for rotational forces assigned to numerous operating locations within the U. S. European Command area of responsibility. 

Colonel Shelton is a native of Roanoke, Virginia and entered the Air Force as a graduate of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets and ROTC Detachment 875 at Virginia Tech in 1996. He is a command pilot with over 2700 hours in T-37, T-1, C-5, and KC-135 aircraft, and has extensive operational flying experience in support of Operations ALLIED FORCE, ENDURING FREEDOM, and IRAQI FREEDOM. He has served in a variety of positions at wing and major command levels, to include participation in the AMC Commander’s PHOENIX HAWK leadership development program.   


Prior to assuming his current position, he served as Chief, Strategy and Governance Division, Directorate of Strategy, Capabilities, Policy and Logistics.
