Hearts Apart, children's holiday party kicks off holiday season at RAF Mildenhall
A different atmosphere filled the aircraft hangar, with sounds of holiday music and children creating ornaments and decorating their own cookies to enjoy later. With big smiles on their faces, they participated in the activities 21 Team Mildenhall squadrons set up for them during this year’s Hearts Apart event and Children's Holiday Party.
The event provided an opportunity for families to come together in celebration of the holiday season through games, food and crafts.
“This is a morale event for the base and community, since it brings everyone together and gives us an opportunity to slow down and give everyone time to smell the roses,” said Nikole Schmidt, Mildenhall Spouses Association president. “This is something we do to strictly give back to our community.”
The first hour of the party was the Hearts Apart event specifically for families who currently have a deployed family member.
John Wilson Jr., son of Master Sgt. John Wilson, 100th Civil Engineer Squadron firefighter, who is currently deployed, thoroughly enjoyed his time at the Hearts Apart and holiday party.
“I had a lot of fun and really like all the different things we can do,” Wilson explained. “My favorite part was all the cookies and hot chocolate I had!”
