Dr. Colin S. Gray, Professor Emeritus of International Politics and Strategic Studies at the University of Reading, England, visited RAF Mildenhall today to offer his perspective on Air Force strategy to Team Mildenhall leadership. Thank you for visiting us, sir, and we hope you enjoyed being here at RAF Mildenhall!
Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson has spent the day touring RAF Mildenhall and speaking with the Airmen who make the mission happen. She had this piece of leadership advice to share: #SECAF #Airmen #USAF #BreakingBarriers U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa
RAF Mildenhall is pretty well known for being the most innovative air base in Europe. Hands down. No contest. All thanks to Airmen, like Senior Airman Joshua Heffernan from the 100th Maintenance Squadron, who make innovation look like a cakewalk. Watch him talk about it and read more here:https://go.usa.gov/xUBg6 U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa
Dr. Jan Zdiarsky, director of Museum of Air battle over the Ore Mountains on September 11th 1944, visited RAF Mildenhall yesterday and shared how the 100th Bomb Group's history is connected to the museum he opened. Airmen from the 100th BG were shot down over the Ore Mountains in the Czech Republic during the Ruhland mission they flew Sept. 11, 1944. The 100th BG lost 13 aircraft and 12 aircrew that day. The museum opened September 1997 to commemorate and share unique documents and wreckage found in the Ore Mountain area. Dr. Zdiarsky also presented Colonel Amhrein with a piece of wreckage from the B-17 “Boss Lady” as well as a piece of artwork to display alongside it.
Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson arrived at RAF Mildenhall, today. She’ll be making multiple stops on her visit, to include a return to RAF Mildenhall to meet with Airmen. We welcome you Madam Secretary, and hope you enjoy your visit! #SECAF #Airmen #USAF #BreakingBarriers U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa
Happy 4th of July!
RAF Mildenhall welcomed U.S. Ambassador Johnson this morning who visited from the U.S. Embassy London. We were able to show him just how great the Bloody Hundredth is with a tour and a great chance to meet some of the awesome Airmen and leadership on the base. #rafmildenhall #airmenofcharacter
"We pride ourselves on being the most lethal Air Force in the world, but that means our job is inherently dangerous. Just like the Airmen who flew, fought and won before us, we have to accept the nature of our business, and do whatever it takes to establish air dominance and ensure international peace." Yesterday the #RAFBatonRelay team made it to RAF Mildenhall and they had the opportunity to tour a 352d Special Operations Wing CV-22 aircraft. What a way to spend the day for #RAF100. The baton relay is a celebration of the Royal Air Force 100th birthday, and we're proud to support our fellow Airmen!
Our honorary commanders had the opportunity to experience our KC-135 refueling F-15 Eagles from the 48th Fighter Wing this week, which is always quite the experience! The Honorary Commanders’ program brings together dignitaries and leaders from the community in an effort to foster mutual understanding and trust by assisting base commanders with networking in the surrounding areas. Thank you to everyone who made the event possible! Read the story at https://go.usa.gov/xUYDN
“What I like best about my job is the challenge of tracking everything. I’m always looking for ways to make processes better and improve output, getting products and resolutions completed for the customers in the most efficient and timely manner. It’s important because it all ties to the mission when we can get the customer what they need when they need it. It means improved work flow for themselves and the mission,” said Staff Sgt. Miles McClain, 488th Intelligence Support Squadron production control manager.
Congratulations to Staff Sgt. Alexandre Rogan, 100th Security Forces Squadron Military Working Dog trainer, who just took his Oath of Office to become a commissioned officer! In mid-July, SSgt Rogan leaves for officer training school in Alabama before then heading to Aviano Air Base. After seven years in the Air Force, with almost four years as an MWD handler, he is switching careers and becoming part of the Medical Service Corps. If you see him around before he heads to OTS, please be sure to congratulate him on this awesome achievement!
The Bloody Hundredth tested its emergency response capabilities during an exercise this week, which included protesters, a base access breach and a vehicle incident with injuries. Although it made for a long week, the result is a better prepared, always ready wing! “We need to test the base’s readiness in the most realistic scenarios possible. It will ultimately prepare us better for real-world situations.” -Capt. Joseph Brzozwske, 100th Air Refueling Wing Inspector General chief Read the whole story at https://go.usa.gov/xUqwN
Gen. Tod D. Wolters, U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa commander, visited the Bloody Hundredth today and shared his priorities with our Airmen. Proud to protect the sovereign skies!!
"In addition to being the cyber security manager for RAF Mildenhall, I'm also one of the communication security managers. Every airplane that takes off needs to be able to communicate securely with ground personnel, other aircraft, and even different services/countries -- it's my job to ensure they can do that quickly and securely. My office’s mission is to secure all sensitive communication, ranging from computer networks, airplanes, satellites, radar and much more. We coordinate directly with the National Security Agency and our NATO counterparts to ensure our mission partners are operating securely. All classified communications traffic must be assessed, approved and supported by my office," said Staff Sgt. Matthew Wright, 100th Communications Squadron Wing Information Systems security manager.
RAF Mildenhall is scheduled to participate in an exercise June 19-20, which may affect base traffic and gate access. Please be patient accessing the base during this time, as it is important to routinely test our capabilities and emergency response actions. Thank you!
Twenty-five Team Mildenhall members volunteered at the President’s Sports Club Experience Day in Thetford June 13. The event, similar to the Joan Mann Special Sports Day, is in its 20th year and is for children with special educational needs. More than 400 children from schools across Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Essex, had the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities, including American football, basketball, baseball, trampolining and swimming. The RAF Mildenhall Airmen supported the event by coaching basketball, baseball and American football, as well as assisting with registration and handing out lunches. Thank you to all those who took part and helped continue building relationships within the community! Also, thank you to Sarah Stevens for the photo.
How easy is it to vote absentee in the military? Check out this quick video for an overview of the process from start-to-finish. Overseas Citizens Voters Week is June 27 - July 5, and the RAF Mildenhall Voting Assistance Office will be at the Exchange Food Court to assist with voter registration 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., June 27 and 29, and July 2. "I have always had the mindset where I want to help people, to be the one people turn to for help. As a member of the 100th Security Forces Squadron and a first responder, that's my job and I'm going to do it well. Security Forces is a big family. All the Defenders here really make the job a lot better. We look out for each other and so does leadership. Being in the Air Force is great; I'm 20 years old and living in England; I love it," said Airman Deionne Williams, 100th Security Forces Squadron.
Well done to all who participated in the Marauder Melee events today, and thanks to those who came out and supported them! Congratulations to the 100th Force Support Squadron who won the overall trophy! Feel free to tag yourselves in the photos!
