Unaccompanied First Term Airmen will stay in a dormitory, and arrangements are usually made 14 days before arrival. If your sponsor has yet to arrange a dorm room for you, or you wish to confirm the arrangements, please contact the Unaccompanied Housing Office at DSN 314-238-5736 or commercial (011-44) 1638-545736.
There are very strict rules regarding firearms in the U.K. Any attempt to import firearms in your personal property shipments (hold baggage or household goods) without first obtaining a Firearm or Shotgun Certificate will result in the seizure of the firearms, criminal investigation by U.K. and U.S. law enforcement authorities and potential prosecution under U.K. or U.S. law. The seized items may be confiscated and destroyed. Additionally, shipment of ammunition in personal property shipments arranged by the DoD is prohibited. Information about obtaining passports can be found HERE. In addition to the documents required for PCSing to the UK, it is imperative for inbound personnel to obtain a tourist passport prior to arrival in the UK if they expect to travel for leisure purposes. Per the Foreign Clearance Guide for the United Kingdom: Due to limited resources at US Embassies/Consulates and OCONUS military passport application processing locations, DoD personnel and Eligible Family Members planning to perform unofficial (personal) travel during or in conjunction with the official overseas assignments, should obtain a Regular (Tourist) Passport (at their own expense) prior to departure from CONUS.

As soon as you receive a copy of your PCS orders, the Post Office can assign you a mailbox. Mailboxes can be arranged through the 100 FSS website.

Driving in the United Kingdom is unique from driving on American roads . You will take a driver's exam based on the Highway Code soon after you arrive as part of the Team Mildenhall Newcomer Briefings (arranged through Airman & Family Readiness). Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Finance Office is unable to accept walk ins at this time. Please call DSN 238-8851 or go through the Comptroller Services Portal: click here. Please in-process with your CSS as soon as you arrive to initiate your Finance In-processing. You will be signed up for an in-person briefing after you are out of quarantine. An email with the date, time, location and what to bring will be sent to your official Air Force email, as well as to your CSS. If you are a motorcycle rider, you need to update your duty station information in the MUSTT system, and meet with your unit's Motorcycle Safety Representative to schedule any required training.
