Brian Szarek, 100th Maintenance Squadron Aerospace Ground Equipment craftsman, recorded his first hole-in-one at the 120-yard, par 3, sixth hole, with a pitching wedge during the RAF Mildenhall Intramural Golf play-offs at Breckland Pines Golf Club, RAF Lakenheath, July 12.

Szarek watched the ball bounce just short of the green, run up to the hole, hit the pin and drop. This was the 12th hole-in-one recorded at the golf course and the third ever at the sixth hole.

The 27-year-old Peoria, Ariz. native has been working at RAF Mildenhall for two years. He took up golf 10 years ago saying it looked like a challenge. He said his favorite golfer is Phil Mickelson because he is down to earth and he golfed at Arizona State University.
Szarek showed he was certainly in fine form as five holes later on the 10th green, he holed a 40-foot birdie putt to give his team the lead starting the back nine.

He was presented with a hole-in-one trophy for his efforts after the round by Steve Ritz-Woller, general manager of the RAF Lakenheath golf course. He celebrated afterwards with a victory pint.

So with the British Open Golf championships going on this week at Royal St. George's, some of the world's greatest golfers may hope to replicate Szarek's feat.
