Firefighters hone life-saving skills

U.S. Air Force Airman William Burden, from Scott Depot, W. Va., and Defence Fire Service Firefighter Paul Cusden, from Ramsgate, Kent, both 100th Civil Engineer Squadron Fire Department firefighters, attack a simulated furniture fire using proper extinguishing techniques to prevent flashovers March 18, 2014, at the fire training area on RAF Mildenhall, England. The fire department's live-fire training requirement involves performing two structural and two aircraft live-fire burns per year. The training is vital in ensuring firefighters learn and practice proper firefighting techniques. It also teaches them to recognize firsthand the importance of personal protective equipment within a live-fire environment, as well as requirements to keep them as safe as possible while on the scene.
