RAF Mildenhall Airmen help students talk to Santa

RAF MILDENHALL, England --  Airmen from the 100th Air Refueling Wing visited two local schools Dec. 12-13, to provide the students with a direct line of communication to Santa Claus.

Staff Sgt. Carlaton White, Senior Airman Kiana Kirkland, Senior Airman Stephen Tapia and Airman 1st Class Roy Smith volunteered to help make this project happen.

First stop for the “Radio Santa” was Beck Row Primary Academy. There, 108 pupils, aged 4 to 7, had the chance to talk to Santa via radio before he begins his journey around the world.

The school children were very surprised that Santa already knew their names and what they wanted for Christmas.

The team also visited 83 eager 4 and 5 year olds from Great Heath Academy.

"The children were delighted to be able to speak to Santa; their faces lit up with smiles when they heard his voice,” said Ruth Cresswell, Great Heath Academy early years teacher. “We really appreciate the volunteers taking time out of their busy schedules to run Radio Santa.” 

The Airmen worked hard to make contact with Santa and ensure the children had a fun time.

“I really enjoyed the experience, it was a good opportunity to reach out to the local community and make a positive impact on the youth,” said White, 100th Communications Squadron radio frequency transmissions systems supervisor. “The reactions from the kids were great and we hope to be able to this again for years to come.”
