The African Heritage Association hosted its third talent showcase event, The Sounds and Poets of Outstanding Talent, June 15, 2013, on RAF Mildenhall, England.

The SPOT blew the audience away, introducing the live band We Met Yesterday, featuring Team Mildenhall's own Airman 1st Class Bobby Lucas, 100th Civil Engineer Squadron firefighter, and Tech. Sgt. Leon Thomas, 100th Maintenance Operations Squadron training manager. We Met Yesterday is a band of seven service members from both RAF Mildenhall and RAF Lakenheath. Their music is reminiscent of a New Orleans jazz festival or the soulful sounds of a Harlem night club during the Harlem Renaissance.

The poetry acts of the night only added to the excitement of The SPOT. Staff Sgt. Katrina Soler, 100th Logistics Readiness Squadron aircraft parts store assistant NCO in charge, and Staff Sgt. Gillian Howard, 48th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron avionics technician craftsman, really entertained the audience, bringing them to their feet with cheers and laughter.

The audience was inspired and enlightened by the words from MP, aka Mighty Poet. A self-proclaimed "edutainer," MP shared his poetry, which melds education and entertainment. His knowledge and pristine delivery truly captivated the audience.

"Events like The SPOT allow our Airmen to hold different leadership roles, and speak volumes to what volunteerism means as it pertains to base and community involvement," said Tech. Sgt. Duane Vandross, AHA president and 100th Air Refueling Wing installation spectrum manager from the Bronx, N.Y.

To cap off the evening's entertainment, U.K. and YouTube sensation Suli Breaks was humble enough to come all the way from London and shared three poems thanking all Airmen for their sacrifices and active-duty service.
