RAF Mildenhall held a pre-season safety briefing for active duty members and their dependents who ride motorcycles on RAF Mildenhall and RAF Lakenheath, England, April 1, 2013.

"It was a very interesting and helpful brief, and I hope to attend next year as well," said David Turner, a motorcycle rider who attended the brief.

Hosted at the RAF Mildenhall theater, the brief covered many topics pertaining to riding safely, to include what personal protective equipment to wear, how to perform a pre-ride inspection, and new rules on filtering and lane splitting.

Because of the dangers lane splitting presents, it is now not allowed at all, and filtering has been restricted to traffic moving at 20 miles per hour or slower for all active duty military members to reduce the risk of accidents.

The main point stressed at the brief was how riders can minimize their chances of having an accident. By riding and dressing for the conditions, knowing how and when to pass other vehicles, and keeping motorcycle maintenance up-to-date, Airmen can reduce the risk of hurting themselves or others.
