The annual pre-season motorcycle safety briefing required for all U.S. service members who ride in the U.K. is at 8:30 a.m. on March 29 in the Strike Eagle Complex (building 1319) on RAF Lakenheath, England, and at 3:30 p.m. on April 1 at the base theater on RAF Mildenhall, England.

The briefing will cover topics such as rider registration, mishap trends, personal protective equipment, risk management and local riding conditions. Both briefings are open to any U.S. service member, regardless of duty assignment.

Following the March 29 safety brief, Chapter 86 of the Green Knights Military Motorcycle Club is sponsoring a "poker run" and barbeque cookout to kick off the riding season.

"The event is open to everyone, but is mandatory for all actively licensed motorcycle riders," said Capt. Thomas Dolan, 100th Air Refueling Wing Safety Office.

For any inbound personnel not able to attend the briefings, make-up briefings can be coordinated through each unit's motorcycle coordinator, first sergeant or commander.

The poker run, a tradition among bikers, will begin at Defender Park on RAF Lakenheath, England, with stops in Downham Market, Swaffham, Thompson and Brandon before ending back at Defender Park. At each stop, riders will receive a playing card, and at the end of the run the rider with the best poker hand wins the game. Commemorative poker chips will be handed out to participants in the poker run.
