Feltwell Elementary School offers updates for parents

RAF MILDENHALL, England --  The latest "Hedgehog Highlights" newsletter, from Feltwell Elementary School, was sent to parents recently, with the following information:

Terra Nova testing

Terra Nova is a series of standardized achievement tests designed to assess K-12 student achievement in a wide variety of subjects. The FES has developed a testing schedule conducive to a more relaxed atmosphere to reduce test anxiety for students.

The schedule is as follows:

March 12: Science, 8:45 to 10:45 a.m. (time tested, 60 minutes)
March 13: Math, 8:45 to 10:45 a.m. (time tested, 90 minutes)
March 14: Social Studies, 8:45 to 10:45 a.m. (time tested, 65 minutes)
March 19: Reading, 8:45 to 10:45 a.m. (time tested, 80 minutes)
March 20: Language, 8:45 to 10:45 a.m. (time tested, 40 minutes)

Win a bicycle!

The FES received two bicycles for the top boy and girl readers. The award is offered to promote literacy and recognize scholastic achievement in the community, while also encouraging active and healthy lifestyles in young people.

Students are advised to keep reading, and take "Reading Counts" quizzes to accumulate points. The boy and girl with the highest number of points as of noon, April 1, 2013, will win the bicycles.

Change of routine

Parents should notify the school before 2 p.m. if their children will not be following their usual end-of-day routine. If the school is not notified by either a phone call or a signed note from a parent or guardian, children are required to follow their regular end-of-day schedule.

Teachers request parents ensure their contact information is kept up-to-date throughout the school year. The information is used by the school nurse to contact parents in the event of a child being sick or injured, or in the event of an emergency.
