When Airmen in-process RAF Mildenhall, one of the first places they have to go is the 100th Logistic Readiness Squadron for initial issue of job-specific gear.

The Airmen who work in the mobility section of the 100th LRS issue training gear as well as gear for real-world situations.

"Our job is to make sure that everyone on base has the equipment to be safe doing their jobs," said Airman 1st Class Nita Sin, 100th Logistic Readiness Squadron individual protective equipment apprentice from Philadelphia, Pa.

The Airmen who work in the mobility section work in a large warehouse that stores different types of gear. Everything from cold weather gear to decontamination kits are stored and ready in the event of a real-world emergency; most of these items are stored in mobility bags.

"There are three different types of mobility bags that we build on this base: the A-Bag which is field gear, the B-Bag which is cold weather gear and the C-bag which is mission-oriented protective posture gear," said Airman 1st Class Amanda Christoffersen, 100th Logistic Readiness Squadron individual protective equipment apprentice from Gower, Mo. "Most of the time we build the C-bags; they are the ones that everyone is issued."

C-bags consist of two sets each of overboots, rubber gloves, glove inserts, MOPP pants and MOPP shirts as well as M-9 tape, M-8 paper and gas masks with canisters. Moblility also issues vests to 100th Security Forces Squadron personnel and those tasked to deploy.

"Each time a security forces member inprocesses the base we issue them a vest with plates as well as a helmet," said Sin. "We also issue groin protectors and neck protectors. Basically we issue everything that is needed to protect the body and keep people safe."

The goal of the mobility section is to support the 100th Air Refueling Wing's mission by ensuring all gear is serviceable so it can protect Airmen on station and in deployed locations, said Christoffersen.
