Fire Prevention Week events scheduled

RAF MILDENHALL, England --  Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 7 to 13 and the 100th Civil Engineer Squadron Fire Department is hosting a variety of events:

Oct. 8:
  • 6:45 to 7:15 a.m. - Sparky the Fire Dog will greet people at the main gate, Gate 15
  • 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. - Sparky the Fire Dog and RAF Mildenhall firefighters are scheduled to visit St. Mary's Academy (primary school) in Mildenhall
  • 2 to 4 p.m. - A movie with Sparky the Fire Dog at the base theater. Sparky will hand out popcorn coupons to the first 50 children
Oct. 9:

  • 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. - The fire department will have a fire safety information booth at the Exchange. Sparky the Fire Dog is scheduled to make a guest appearance. Firefighters will demonstrate a grease-pan fire at 11:30 a.m., noon and 12:30 p.m. along with other demonstrations throughout the day
  • Noon - Members from the 100th CES Fire Department and Sparky will visit base housing to provide fire safety hand-outs to residents
  • 3:30 p.m. - "Gary the Fireman" and firefighters from RAF Mildenhall will visit the youth center
Oct. 10:
  • 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. - Story time with Sparky at the base library
  • 5 to 6:45 p.m. - Bowling with Sparky at the bowling alley and Sparky will hand out bowling tickets and gift bags for children
  • 9 to 10:30 a.m. - Story time with Sparky at the RAF Mildenhall Child Development Center
Oct. 11:
  • 1 to 4:30 p.m. - A fire muster competition, consisting of events including a bunker drill, hose drill, Keiser sled and mannequin rescue, is open to all base personnel. Squadrons are invited to enter a four-person team. There will be free t-shirts for participants and a trophy for the winning team.
Oct. 12:

  • 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. - The RAF Mildenhall Fire Department will host an open house. Entertainment includes bouncy castles, fire truck slide, fire prevention training trailer and vehicle fire demonstration.
  • 3:30 to 4 p.m. - Team Mildenhall run in honor of Fire Prevention Week.
