'My Security Matters': Security Awareness Month prepares to kick off Published Sept. 28, 2012 By Errol Sanders 100th Air Refueling Wing Information Protection RAF MILDENHALL, England -- The catchphrase "Let's Roll" has become synonymous with heroism, self-sacrifice and initiative. It was reputably the last words of Flight 93 members before trying to overpower their hijackers Sept. 11, 2001. Although they tragically lost their lives during this 9/11 attack, their efforts exemplify how the collective efforts of many individuals can make a real difference to national security. Our personal security doesn't rest in the hands of our government - it rests with us, our neighbors and fellow citizens. We need to work together to protect sensitive personal and government information. RAF Mildenhall's security awareness campaign starts Oct. 1 and is sponsored by the Installation Security Advisory Group. The ISAG will host various security forums and provide valuable security information throughout the month. This awareness campaign is to guide the base populace into a higher state of alertness and challenge everyone to become more vigilant at home, in the workplace and abroad. As security professionals, we believe people don't always full understand how their individual decisions and practices can affect the security of our military and the wider community. Don't be fooled; there are people who are looking for opportunities to exploit us as individuals and as a nation. To help us focus on some of these threats, each week in October there will be a different security awareness theme to aid our community in staying secure at home, in the workplace and abroad. This month's themes are: · My "Information" security · My "Cyber" security · My "Physical" security · My "Shared" security Without a doubt, investment in security awareness will enhance Team Mildenhall's mission capabilities and help keep the entire community safer. Everyone is encouraged to take time to review the Security Awareness Month tips of the day, new stories, presentations and videos on SharePoint, which can be viewed from a government computer under the 100th ARW/IP SharePoint page.
