48th Fighter Wing commander rescinds mandatory housing policy

RAF MILDENHALL, England -- The 48th Fighter Wing commander rescinded the mandatory housing policy requiring select incoming Airmen to occupy base housing on RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall Aug. 22, 2012.

Col. Kyle Robinson revoked the policy after military family housing occupancy levels were successfully raised to 98 percent capacity.

The mandatory housing policy went into effect January 2012, and was designed to fill unoccupied base housing.

Please note: Members who were assigned to military family housing prior to Aug. 22, 2012, will still be required to move into their assigned house. All on-base to off-base moves require a minimum 12-month occupancy, even if housing was assigned under the mandatory housing policy. Additionally, unaccompanied Airmen with the rank of E-1 to E-4 will still be required to live in base dormitories.

Those members moving from off-base to on-base housing must have at least 18 months remaining on station. Members moving from off-base to on-base housing will receive government funding to pay for the move.
