In April, members from the 727th Air Mobility Squadron identified energy saving improvements, helping eliminate high financial costs to the Air Force.

They acted immediately and put together a team from the 100th Air Refueling Wing, 100th Civil Engineer Squadron, 100th Communications Squadron and 100th Maintenance Squadron. Additionally, a team member from the 31st Fighter Wing, Aviano Air Force Base, Italy, assisted in gathering ideas on how to operate smarter without negatively impacting the work environment.

"My team understands the importance of the Air Force Core Values and we want to ensure our squadron continues to practice 'Excellence In All You Do' by minimizing the environmental impact," said Master Sgt. Donald Popp, 727th AMS Aerial Terminal Operations Center superintendent. "By doing this, we can save taxpayer dollars and apply the Air Force's Core Values."

Energy-saving ideas from the team include closing their hangar door when not in use and weather sealing the doors. Additionally, they have already removed excess refrigerators and microwaves in break rooms, are establishing more motion sensor lights and will install heat meters on the building so daily usage can be monitored to see where further adjustments can be made.
