RAF Mildenhall, RAF Lakenheath prepare for upcoming Earth Week events

RAF MILDENHALL, England --  Earth Week is April 16 to 22, and the environmental management offices from both 100th and 48th Civil Engineer Squadrons have organized events throughout April, to raise awareness of the environment and promote environmentally-friendly practices.

RAF Mildenhall events:

April 1 to 20: Dormitory can-collection competition. Rinsed food and beverage cans should be taken to recycling areas in each dorm's laundry room. The dorm that collects the most cans, wins a barbecue party.

April 16 to 20: Energy and resource conservation briefings at RAF Lakenheath High School.

April 16 to 20: Information display at the base library.

April 19: 2 to 3 p.m., "Dirty sock" competition (vehicle emissions contest) at the parking lot by Keesler Federal Credit Union.

April 20: 3 to 3:30 p.m., Can-collection weigh-in from dorm competition.

RAF Lakenheath events:

Poster and poetry competition at RAF Lakenheath Intermediate School. The deadline for submissions is April 5. Volunteers are required to be on a selection panel to choose the winning poster and poetry. To volunteer, call Barbora Kunakova at DSN 226-3990, or Hazel Neal at 226-0454.

April 2 to 23: Information display at base library.

April 14: 10 a.m. to noon, Litter pick-up outside RAF Lakenheath perimeter fence (from main gate to Wangford Road).

April 16 to 20: Energy and resource conservation briefings at Lakenheath High School.

April 16 to 20: 8:45 and 10 a.m., Tour of recycling center for school children.

April 20: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., "Dirty sock" competition (vehicle emissions contest) at Defender parking lot, near the gas station and commissary.

April 21: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Environmental fair at the base Exchange.

April 23 to 25: 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., Book reading at the child development center.
