A new policy now in effect under the East Anglia Housing Office requires all Airmen with dependents receive mandatory assignment to military housing, with ranks E-1 through E-6 receiving homes in the area known as Lord's Walk.

Incoming residents to RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall should expect a good quality of life in the 570-unit development, the largest leased housing area in the Air Force.

Lani Waikiki, 48th Civil Engineer Squadron capital asset manager, said the homes in Lord's Walk area receive $4 million in maintenance and upgrades each year, including new paint, double-pane windows and upgraded carpets. Each home also comes equipped with American-style appliances.

"Any time those items need to be replaced, they are replaced," Waikiki said. "The interiors are extremely well-kept."

The exteriors will also be taken care of as the housing office works with the property owner to refurbish the fenceline and assesses the need for floodlights.

These upgrades are part of an effort to make 200 currently unoccupied homes ready for new residents. They will continue over the next five years as families move out and new families move in.

Members wishing to view a Lord's Walk home can visit an open house at either 39 Earls Field or 2 Elm Close Jan. 19 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
