Wing Strategy for success Published Dec. 23, 2011 By Capt. Scott Frohardt 100th Air Refueling Wing Air Force Smart Operations for the 21st Century RAF MILDENHALL, England -- Ensuring all 100th Air Refueling Wing Airmen are working toward a common goal with the rest of the Air Force can be a defining factor in mission accomplishment here. For this reason, RAF Mildenhall leadership implemented a "Wing Strategy" program that is designed to align resources behind a common direction and focus. This strategy provides a clear line of sight between higher-level goals and lower-level metrics, clarifies responsibility and accountability, and gets the critical things done first, to make the biggest impact. The first step of this process begins by aligning RAF Mildenhall's mission, vision and priorities with those of 3rd Air Force, U.S. Air Forces in Europe, Air Mobility Command, and Headquarters Air Force. These priorities are broken down into individual objectives that units can focus their efforts on and use as stepping stones to mission accomplishment. This practice, which has been proven effective in many military and civilian business fields, will affect all Airmen of Team Mildenhall by ensuring individual needs are being met, along with the needs of the organization. The benefits of the Wing Strategy are already being seen around base. Many units have increased focus on customer satisfaction and the 100th Comptroller Squadron has prioritized and received funding for 20 quality of life projects, valued at around $2.9 million. While continuing to meet the mission's needs, security forces Airmen are beginning 8-hour work shifts and the 351st Air Refueling Squadron training program has been streamline to reduce sortie requirements, in turn, reducing fuel costs and workloads for maintenance and aircrew personnel. The Wing Strategy will continue to impact Airmen at all levels of Team Mildenhall and with everyone's assistance in prioritizing daily actions and improving processes, mission accomplishment will be at hand.
