A senior non commissioned officer stationed here was recently recognized by the 100th Air Refueling Wing commander for his volunteer efforts with the 1894 (Swaffham) Squadron, Air Training Corps.

Master Sgt. Adrian Rivera, 100th Logistics Readiness Squadron, was presented the British-American Council's community relations award Sept. 24, 2011, at a ceremony by Col. Christopher Kulas.

"According to our wing headquarters, [Rivera] is the first ever serving U.S. Airman volunteering as a service helper in the ATC," said Flight Lt. Malcolm Newman, 1894 Squadron officer commanding, in his submission.

As a service helper since December 2009, Rivera has mentored cadets in numerous courses including citizenship, military customs and courtesies and flight training. Rivera's hard work has not gone unrecognized by the 1894 Squadron.

"I have appointed Rivera as a flight commander of one of our three flights in the squadron," said Newman. "His leadership and experience as a U.S. Air Force senior non-commissioned officer carries directly over into the ATC as he mentors the cadet non-commissioned officers in their leadership styles and development."

"[Rivera] has made a lasting and positive impression on the young people and the staff of 1894 as he continually strives to help enhance the relations of the Royal Air Force and U.S. Air Force," added Newman. "It is a privilege to have him serving with us."

The B-AC's awards run continually throughout the year and anyone can nominate someone they feel has really made a difference.

The five award categories are: U.K. individual (or couple); U.S. Individual (or couple); U.K. group; U.S. group; or young person (under 18).

To nominate someone, submit a statement of their contribution to enhance British-American community relations and any background information to sal.davidson@mildenhall.af.mil. Submissions will then be presented at the bi-monthly B-AC meetings for consideration.
