Voluntary computer upgrades available Published Aug. 30, 2011 By Tech. Sgt. Kevin Wallace 100th Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs RAF MILDENHALL, England -- The 100th Communications Squadron is currently allowing Team Mildenhall Airmen to self-initiate computer upgrades. "Faster boot times, lower memory usage, side-by-side window auto-sizing, a taskbar preview that really works, improved file and program searching, jump lists, useful 'Gadgets' to your desktop, less errors, crashes, and frustration are some of the benefits to upgrading computers," said Tech. Sgt. Aaron Harp, 100th CS. According to the 100th CS, all computers on RAF Mildenhall are scheduled to receive Windows 7. They'll be scheduled and pushed throughout the year. "[But] why not take advantage and upgrade your computer when it's convenient for you," said Harp, who explains how to voluntarily self-initiate the Windows 7 desktop Operating System upgrade. First, Harp advises that Airmen navigate HERE to view or print computer back-up instructions. "It's highly recommended that users start the process at the end of the duty day," said Harp. "After clicking 'Run' to initiate the install, your computer automatically reboots. Don't attempt to login after that one-to-two minute initial reboot, as [doing so] will cause an upgrade failure. The entire install process will take four-to-five hours." The voluntary upgrade is available to all RAF Mildenhall users who meet minimum requirements. However, all computers (except identified exempted systems) will automatically receive the mandatory upgrade eventually. For all network related issues, please contact DSN 478-4357 to open a trouble ticket. Operating hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
