Kevin Wallace and Marelise Wood 100th Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs RAF MILDENHALL, England -- Several members of the 352nd Special Operations Group were recently recognized with Air Force-level awards. The SOG Airmen competed against their peers from all other Air Force major commands, and came out on top. The 352nd Special Operations Support Squadron Aircrew Flight Equipment netted the 2010 Outstanding Air Force Aircrew Flight Equipment Small Program of the Year Award. Aircrew Flight Equipment shops typically manage, perform, and schedule inspections, maintenance, and adjustments of assigned aircrew flight equipment, aircrew chemical defense equipment, and associated supplies, and inventories assets. They also disassemble, assemble, inspect, fabricate, clean, repair, and pack aerospace weapon system components such as protective clothing, flotation equipment, emergency evacuation systems, and parachutes. Senior Master Sgt. William Adams and Staff Sgt. David Ibsen, 321st Special Tactics Squadron, were named 2010 Air Force Combat Controllers of the Year for the senior noncommissioned and noncommissioned officer categories, respectively. Combat controllers are ground combat forces that are traditionally inserted or parachute to a location and set up, and operate drop and pickup zones, and helicopter landing sites. Additionally, combat controllers typically have a heavy air traffic control, fire support and command, control and communication emphasis in line of their duties. Lt. Col. William Freeman, 7th Special Operations Squadron, was selected as the 2011 Tuskegee Airmen General Benjamin O. Davis Jr. Military Award winner for the officer category. Davis commanded the heroic Tuskegee Airmen during World War II. The Tuskegee Airmen were all-black aircrews trained in Tuskegee, Ala., and flew P-51 Mustang fighter aircraft.
