Road work, gate closures near RAF Mildenhall Aug. 1 – Dec. 31 Published July 27, 2011 By Megan Robare 100th Civil Engineer Squadron RAF MILDENHALL, England -- Gate 1 will close to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic Aug. 1 as roadwork begins on Lincoln Road, which runs between the roundabout by Mickey's Tea Bar and Gate 1 (near the Bird-in-Hand pub). The roadwork will continue through New Year's Eve, and gate closures and traffic patterns will be affected on-and-off during the entire period. The roundabout in front of the Gateway Inn will reopen for use Oct. 31. Beginning Aug. 1, the Main Gate will be open 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week for vehicle and pedestrian entry and exit. Gate 20 (near the Child Development Center) will also be open 24/7, but traffic exiting through Gate 20 may only make left turns. Gate 11 (the West Row gate) will be open from 6 a.m. to midnight, Monday through Friday. Pedestrians needing to cross Lincoln Road can do so at the roundabout near Mickey's Tea Bar, or at the crosswalk which will be placed in between the two roundabouts. The $2.8-million project includes construction of a permanent entry control point and multiple pedestrian crossings. Additionally, fencing modifications, roundabout improvements and parking lot expansions will be made. For more information, call DSN 238-5635.
