As 2011 begins, the RAF Mildenhall Tax Assistance Program is getting ready to assist base members with their individual income taxes.

Trained volunteers will be available to assist members in completing and filing their returns electronically. The tax center, located on the second floor of Building 424, opens Feb. 7, Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m., and Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon.

At least 30 volunteers are still required to enable the Tax Assistance Program to help out everyone seeking tax assistance.

Volunteers will be trained and certified in tax preparation by the IRS Jan. 18 to 21. The volunteers will then be available at least three hours per week to assist Air Force members with their taxes. No prior knowledge of tax or accounting is required, and Airmen of any grade, as well as civilians, are encouraged to volunteer.

Units who have people volunteering may have the option to have their taxes done at their unit, without needing to visit the tax center. Those who have returns involving significant buying or selling of stocks and bonds, or other high value transactions, should consult a tax professional specializing in those areas of expertise.

For more information, or to volunteer, e-mail 100arw.taxcenter@mildenhall.af.mil or call Senior Airman Amanda Roerick at 238-3913 or 238-1978.
