More than 20 volunteers from RAF Mildenhall volunteered their expertise to renew structures at the 100th Bombardment Group Memorial Museum at Thorpe Abbotts airfield Oct. 2.

Comprised of mostly senior enlisted ranks and a few junior ones as well, these Airmen provided much needed painting, landscaping and maintenance work to help preserve the location's rich history.

"It was a great opportunity to see a little of the 100th [Air Refueling Wing's] heritage," said Senior Master Sgt. Todd Ramsey, event organizer. "It's part of our heritage, and if we can help, then we should."

The 100th ARW's lineage traces back to the 100th BG and its missions during World War II. This museum is a testament not to the unit, but to the Americans who came to Thorpe Abbotts to fight alongside the Allies during the war. Here, visitors can learn how the unit became known as the "Bloody Hundredth."

The museum is open March 1 to Oct. 31 on weekends and bank holidays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is also open on Wednesdays from May to September. For more information, visit the museum's official website at www.100bgmus.org.uk.
