Youth center, A&FRC have fun events planned for kids Published Sept. 21, 2010 By Karen Abeyasekere 100th Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs RAF MILDENHALL, England -- An afternoon of fun for children is planned Sept. 25 from noon to 4 p.m. at the youth center here. Combining three events into one, and working in conjunction with the Airman and Family Readiness Center and RAFs Mildenhall and Lakenheath Integrated Delivery System, the event is a Family Fun Day 2010,Worldwide Day for Kids, and the Worldwide Day of Play. The Worldwide Day of Play is sponsored by the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, and is part of a campaign to combat childhood obesity by encouraging physically active play. The goal is to get parents and children playing together and doing fun activities, rather than just sitting watching television or playing computer games. Family Fun Day is specifically designed for children from RAFs Mildenhall and Lakenheath who have special needs and are part of the Exceptional Family Member Program. However, all activities and events are open to all children and additional special needs providers will be on hand to assist. The day of fun includes a bouncy castle, playbus, petting zoo, food and information booths, as well as games such as relay races, water balloon toss and sack races. The youth center is currently looking for volunteers for set-up, tear-down, parking and helping with games and the bouncy castle. Parking at the youth center will be reserved for those vehicles with registered handicap plates or placards. Everyone else attending is requested to park on base and walk to the event. The event is open to base ID cardholders only. For more information, call the youth center at DSN 238-2831, or the A&FRC at DSN 238-3406.
