Comedian D.L. Hughley performs Aug. 4 at the Galaxy Club Published Aug. 2, 2010 100th Force Support Squadron RAF MILDENHALL, England -- "Take it to the Limit" is the title of the rock band Hinder's latest album, but the same can be said for the 100th Force Support Squadron's efforts to bring quality performances to Team Mildenhall. With rave reviews from Hinder's summer 2009 performance at RAF Mildenhall's hangar 711, the 100th Air Refueling Wing continues to host stellar performances such as The Legends of Aerospace, Neal McCoy and the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, and comedian Sinbad. The latest coming attraction is comedian D.L. Hughley who will perform Aug. 4, at the Galaxy Club Ballroom. The effort to secure top list entertainers and performers is coordinated through RAF Mildenhall's point of contact for Armed Forces Entertainment, an official Department of Defense agency for providing entertainment to U.S. military personnel overseas. Armed Forces Entertainment and its performers have the honor of supporting Soldiers, Airmen, Marines and Sailors by bringing them the very best in American entertainment. Staff Sgt.Tara Stacy-Smith, who was then assigned to 352nd Operations Support Squadron, attended the Hinder concertand said it was an "absolutely fantastic show." Similar comments such as "awesome and excellent" were given for other performances, as well as "hilarious" which accurately describes Sinbad's performance that prompted loads of laughs from stories about his past life as a former Airman. Stephanie Lown and Tony George represent the 100th FSS in securing acts here. Once a year, the base point of contact is asked to come up with a "wish list" of acts they would like to see at their location. The wish list is based on attendance from prior year's shows, past experience and feedback from audience members, as well as following current trends in entertainment. On average, RAF Mildenhall receives at least six shows per year. "I have been involved with AFE shows for over 15 years and thoroughly enjoy the excitement and anticipation of each show, however big or small, as well as the opportunity to meet a diverse range of entertainers and providing the base population with quality entertainment," said Ms. Lown, Bob Hope Community Center director. AFE was founded in 1951 to provide up-and-coming American entertainment to U.S. troops and their family members stationed overseas, with priority to remote and isolated locations, ships at sea, and contingency operations. Today, AFE hosts more than 1,200 shows around the world each year, reaching more than 500,000 personnel at 355 military installations. Types of talent include musicians, comedians, cheerleaders, and celebrities of sports, movies and television.
