100th ARW welcomes new command chief Published July 1, 2010 By Staff Sgt. Austin M. May 100th Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs RAF MILDENHALL, England -- The enlisted force of the 100th Air Refueling Wing has a new representative at the top tier of leadership, and he's already familiar with the way the wing works. Chief Master Sgt. Chris Powell took over the 100th ARW command chief position June 24, relieving Chief Master Sgt. Antonio Hickey. Chief Powell is a familiar face on RAF Mildenhall. Formerly the 100th Operations Group superintendent, he's been here since July 2008. The 27-year Air Force veteran has spent most of his career as a boom operator, but his first six years as a personnel specialist. While the command chief said he's looking forward to serving in a new capacity, he doesn't intend to make adjustments to the way things operate now. "Of course with a new person you get a new personality," he said. "But the last thing I want to do is come in and change something that's running effectively." Chief Powell said his goal as command chief is to "make a difference," not so much in the way the enlisted force of the 100th ARW works, but in the lives of the Airmen he leads. He said some of his focuses are building relationships and growing people. "None of us will be here forever, and if we're not actively growing our replacements, we're failing to develop tomorrow's leaders," he said.
