A familiar fast food franchise will be available soon at the Army and Air Force Exchange Service food court here.

Anthony's Pizza will be replaced by The Hut and Wing Street, a scaled-down version of Pizza Hut which also offers a variety of chicken wings. The switch is tentatively scheduled for 4th Quarter 2010.

According to Lorenzo Salgado, AAFES Consolidated Exchange general manager, the decision to replace Anthony's with The Hut was based on declining sales, better value, an expanded menu and a corporate goal to move toward national brand fast food establishments.

"When opening new food courts or renovating existing ones, AAFES has a selection process which uses a matrix to determine which restaurants to include," Mr. Salgado stated in an e-mail. "This matrix is based on national customer trends and dining patterns at 'quick service restaurants' in the U.S."

Keeping a pizza option in the food court ensures customers have access to the top three fast food preferences, including hamburgers and Tex-Mex, based on national trends, Mr. Salgado said.
