Team Mildenhall recently finished a 25-day walking contest, aptly named "Walk a Mile in Their Shoes," in support of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Teams of 10 people recorded the number of steps they took each week and tallied the totals at the end of the month.

The 12 teams together walked 6,283.51 miles, with the winning team, the "Walk-a-Holics," walking 1,251.4 miles.

Three representatives from the team, Tech. Sgt. David Humphries, Tech. Sgt. Jonas Patterson, and Tech. Sgt. Ivan Niska, from the 100th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, were presented with an award by Col. Chad Manske, 100th Air Refueling Wing Commander, May 5.

Those who participated said that the event was fulfilling as well as fun.

"We were happy to highlight the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator's program and bring attention to the issue of sexual assault," said Sergeant Niska. "The friendly competition with other units made the experience a lot more entertaining as well."

Rebekah Downs, the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator, furthered Sergeants Niska's sentiments.

"The event came off very well," she said. "There were a lot more teams participating than I ever could have imagined, and I received positive feedback from several of the participants."

The contest's ability to bring awareness of sexual assault resulted in making the program an annual event and will keep Team Mildenhall walking a mile their shoes for years to come.
