Force Management Program briefed to Team Mildenhall Published April 6, 2010 By Staff Sgt. Austin M. May 100th Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs RAF MILDENHALL, England -- Airmen assigned to RAFs Mildenhall and Lakenheath were invited to attend a briefing April 6 detailing the current Air Force Force Management Program. The briefing detailed the current manning situation and challenges faced by the service and what needs to be done to fix the problem. According to Col. Carla Gammon, United States Air Forces in Europe A1 Staff, the Air Force has approximately 5,000 more Airmen than authorized by Congress, and is on track to have 10,000 more than authorized in fiscal 2012 if nothing is done. One of the goals of the Force Management Program is to reduce the size of the Air Force while safeguarding critical, stressed and growing career fields through both voluntary and involuntary separations. According to the briefing, the reduction goals are about 4,375 people on the enlisted side, and about 1,375 officers. In order to encourage voluntary departures, incentives are being offered to those who are willing to consider leaving active duty earlier than originally intended. The briefing went into great detail, outlining who will be affected by the program, and how the drawdowns may affect units on both RAFs Mildenhall and Lakenheath.
