The 100th Air Refueling Wing Tax Center opened its doors at Building 424, second floor Feb. 1, and will remain open until June 30 assisting the community to prepare federal and state income tax returns.

Taxpayers interested in obtaining free volunteer income tax assistance may contact us at DSN 238-1978 or send an e-mail to 100arw.taxcenter@mildenhall.af.mil. Assistance is available Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

For most taxpayers, taxes must be filed by April 15 (all taxes due must be paid by this date or a penalty may be added). Certain taxpayers outside the U.S. must file by June 15 (special rules apply for individuals serving or returning from combat zones).

Taxpayers are reminded there are three options available for filing through us:

1) schedule an appointment for a one-on-one tax preparation (we recommend this option if you believe your taxes are difficult).

2) send an encrypted e-mail, containing your tax information and a completed intake sheet, to Capt. Edward Sanok or Tech. Sgt. Moses Palaruan.

3) bring the required documents to the Tax Center. At this time, walk-in service is provided on preparer availability only; we apologize if we cannot assist with this option.

The Internal Revenue Service requires volunteer income tax assistance preparers to verify the taxpayer's identity, name, social security number or individual tax identification number and dates of birth of the taxpayer, spouse, and all dependents listed on the tax form. Here are some items the taxpayer will have to bring (depending on the circumstances) to his/her tax appointment:
  • Tax information such as W-2s, 1099s, 1098s (interest/dividends on checking/savings regardless of amount)
  • Social security cards or ITIN letters for you and all persons on your tax return (military members will be verified by CAC and W-2 and/or previous year tax return)
  • Proof of identity (such as drivers license or other picture identification)
  • Bank details for direct deposit/debit
Although the VITA representatives are trained and certified by the IRS, there may be some aspects of your taxes that will be out of scope for the VITA program. In the unlikely event your taxes fall into that category, we will respectfully refer you to a paid preparer available in the area or online.
