Work place protocol for Job Shadow Day Published Jan. 22, 2010 100th Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs RAF MILDENHALL, England -- Job Shadow Day is an initiative that is supported by the Air Force Military community. It serves as a way to engage students in the professional work environment. Below is an explanation of protocol for the event: Work place protocol and introductions: Student workplace sponsor should introduce themselves to the student explaining their position, job and workplace responsibilities, and education, and explain the unit's role and mission in the overall success of the Air Force. Workplace sponsor should introduce the student to unit personnel. Sponsor and student should discuss what they would both like to gain from the Job Shadowing experience. Demonstrating work place skills: Telephone use: Demonstrate the correct procedure to answering phone in the workplace. Allow students to answer a few workplace phone calls. Have the student make a few workplace customer follow-up phone calls. Computer use: Emphasize the importance to workplace file management (hard copy and electronic) and privacy act principles. Discuss organizational files and their importance and the use of ICE and its importance to the work place. Show importance of Outlook/email to a workplace Demonstrate a unit tasker and suspense list, etc Basic office equipment operation: Have the students gain experience with various safe workplace/office equipment Customer service: Involve the student or have them observe various customer interactions within the unit. Before and after explain the nature of the interaction and its importance to the workplaces' success. Explain to them what was positive and what was negative of the customer interaction. Meetings or presentations: If possible, have student attend a meeting and give basic background information to the student so that they understand the purpose/nature of the meeting.
