Gatwick shuttle service to be terminated Feb. 1 Published Jan. 19, 2010 By Staff Sgt. Austin M. May 100th Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs RAF MILDENHALL, England -- Beginning Feb. 1, weekend shuttle service from RAFs Mildenhall and Lakenheath will be terminated due to lack of ridership. There are still several options available for those needing transportation to the airport, including taxis, commercial buses and Outdoor Recreation's shuttle van service. Taxis can be coordinated in advance through the Mildenhall billeting office. According to Col. Jeffery Bateman, 100th Mission Support Group commander, the shuttle runs to Gatwick were not making enough money for the bus company to justify their continued operation. "They're averaging about 10 customers a month, which isn't nearly enough to justify the expense of driving to London and back twice a week," he said. The colonel said Airmen and civilians travelling on official orders aren't being sent to Gatwick nearly as often as they used to. The bus to London's Heathrow airport will continue making runs twice daily every day except Dec. 25 and 26. For further details, contact the 48th Logistics Readiness Squadron at DSN 226-1854
