As 2010 begins, the RAF Mildenhall Tax Assistance Program is readying to open its doors to assist the RAF Mildenhall community with its individual income taxes.

Trained volunteers will be available to assist members in completing and filing their returns electronically. The tax center is located on the first floor of Building 424 and will be open starting Feb. 1, Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 to 4 p.m.

The Tax Assistance Program would like to help out everyone seeking tax assistance, but still needs more volunteers.

Volunteers will be trained and certified in tax preparation by the IRS in mid-January. The volunteers will then be available at least three hours per week to assist our Air Force members with their taxes.

No prior knowledge of tax or accounting is required, and Airmen of any grade, as well as civilians, are encouraged to volunteer.

Units who have people volunteering may have the option to have their taxes done at their unit, without needing to visit the tax center. Those who have returns involving significant buying or selling of stocks and bonds, or other high value transactions, should consult a tax professional specializing in those areas of expertise.

Editor's note: The VITA Program is also looking for a temporary hire to work as a tax contact representative. Applicants should have some accounting or finance training and be able to work from mid-January through June 30. Anyone interested in either position is encouraged to contact Tech. Sgt. Moses Palaruan at 01638 54 2028 (DSN 238-2028) or moses.palaruan@mildenhall.af.mil.
