First Sergeant says "All Airmen must salute during 'God Save the Queen.'"

While nearly every Airman knows what steps to take when they hear the "Star-Spangled Banner," some may be confused what to do when an allied nation's national anthem sounds.

Senior Master Sgt. Todd Ramsey, 100th Civil Engineer Squadron first sergeant, wants to remind all Team Mildenhall that it is their duty to show proper customs and courtesies.

According to Air Force Manual 36-2203, flags and national anthems of friendly foreign countries are shown the same marks of respect as those of the United States.

Airmen:

When outdoors, Airmen should come to attention, face the flag if visible (or else face the music) and then salute.

When indoors, face the flag or music and assume the position of attention. Airmen indoors do not salute unless under arms.

Civilians or Airmen in civilian attire:

When in civilian clothing outdoors, take the same action as when in uniform, but use the following manner of saluting. Men remove the headdress with the right hand and hold it at the left shoulder with the right hand over the heart. Men without hats and women salute by standing at attention and placing the right hand over the heart.

When in civilian clothing indoors, render the civilian salute by standing at attention and placing the right hand over the heart.
