Only one bowling alley can say they are the best in the Air Force, and those bragging rights belong right here.

March 19, the RAF Mildenhall Bowling Center was named best in an Air Force-wide competition, a feat which has never been accomplished before by Mildenhall according to Daniel Tavarez, general manager of the bowling alley.

Patrons of the bowling alley seem to concur with the rating.

"That sounds about right to me, this is an excellent bowling alley," said Michael Pellitier, an airfield systems technician with the 100th Communications Squadron who frequents the bowling alley. "The lanes are always clean, the food is good, the staff is helpful and the location is convenient."

"We're a dedicated staff who understands the need for recreation activities for the active duty and dependents," said Tavarez. "We strive to always provide an affordable entertainment venue and still meet Air Force requirements. Our programming is built with that in mind."

Offering more than 12 different activities including ladies night, dorm daze, munch bowl, cosmic bowling, nine-pin fun night and unit bowling, the bowling center serves every demographic on base.

"We want to have something for everybody," said Tavarez when asked how he made his bowling center so successful. "I think we've done a pretty good job."

While the award does not carry with it any money or bonuses for the bowling alley, the manager doesn't seem to mind.

"Knowing you are the best there is is the best reward" said Tavarez.
