Currently, the East Anglian Regional Housing Office Referral inspectors conduct Health and Safety inspections for all economy rentals, prior to military members signing a lease to start their Overseas Housing Allowance.

Effective Nov. 15, all landlords and Rental Agents will be required to conduct and self-certify their properties by completing an extensive H&S (British law standards) checklist provided by the Housing Office in order to advertise their rental properties on the Automated Housing Referral Network.

Any rental property not advertised on AHRN, military member must request a copy of the checklist from the Housing Office to provide to the landlord or Rental Agent to conduct and self-certify.

The military member must ensure that the completed checklist is returned to the Housing Office prior to signing a rental contract.

This new process will enable the housing referral inspectors to provide enhanced one-on-one customer service at the request of the individual renting private rentals.

Referral inspectors will meet requesting individuals and families at the rental property on the move-in day to conduct a walk through, provide direct advice on tenancy rights and obligations, and to explain lease terms, deposit protection scheme, assistance with utility connections, payment options, meter readings and completion of council tax exemption.
