Fire Prevention Week 2009 to focus on burn awareness

Several events have been scheduled here as part of National Fire Prevention Week, which is officially observed from Oct. 4 through 10.

According to the event's Web site, National Fire Prevention Week 2009 is a campaign focusing on burn awareness and prevention as well as keeping homes safe from the leading causes of home fires.

Supported by Sparky the Fire Dog and several members of the RAF Mildenhall fire department, Col. Chad Manske, 100th Air Refueling Wing commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Charles Funkhouser, RAF Mildenhall fire chief, signed the proclamation authorizing its observance here Oct. 2.

The schedule of events is as follows:

Oct. 6, 9 to 11 a.m. at the CDC: Sparky the Fire Dog visits with a pumper truck
Oct. 7, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the BXtra: Table display with handouts
Oct. 8, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the BXtra: Pumper with Chip Pan demonstration
Oct. 9, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the BXtra: Table display with handouts
