As part of the base's annual POW/MIA Week of Remembrance, there will be a 24-hour vigil, allowing volunteers to publicly read the names of those still listed as missing.

This year's vigil will be held at the POW/MIA monument from Sept. 17 at 4:30 p.m. until Sept. 18 at 4:30 p.m.

The vigil is designed to be a touching and fitting tribute to those who have come before who have paid such a high price for freedom. To ensure every time slot is filled during the 24-hour vigil, volunteers are needed. Volunteers can be military or civilian.

HOW DO I SIGN UP?

Call Tech. Sgt. Yvonne Lavergne at DSN 238-4461/4460 or Master Sgt. Peggy Faison at DSN 238-5529. They can also be reached by e-mail at Yvonne.lavergne@mildenhall.af.mil or peggy.faison@mildenhall.af.mil. Volunteers are being asked to use the subject line of POW/MIA vigil sign-up, and the time requested.

Various time slots are available during the vigil, however the first 15 minutes on Sept. 17 and the last  10 minutes on Sept. 18 are already filled.

WHAT'S INVOLVED?

Reading the POW/MIA names from a list for a five-minute block (this time increases to a 10 minute block during the night and early morning slots). Once your time is up, you will walk (using facing movements) to relieve the individual (salute) standing at parade rest in front of monument for five minutes.

Report to the POW/MIA tent on side of monument in front of Base flagpole, at least 10 minutes prior to your reading time so that you may be signed in (see any of the POW/MIA committee members), and be briefed on the exact choreography.

WHAT TO WEAR:

Uniform of the day for military and smart causal for civilians.
