The education center on base here hosted an education fair and barbeque July 16 in the lawn outside Building 422 to promote education opportunities available for the RAF Mildenhall community.

"We wanted to increase awareness of our services here," said Ms. Juli Kuhns, a Central Texas College field representative. "There are so many new people coming to the base, we want to put ourselves out there."

Five schools are represented at the Mildenhall Education Center, including; Embry Riddle Aeronautical University; Central Texas College; University of Maryland University College; University of Oklahoma; and University of Phoenix. Each offers courses online as well as a face-to-face.

"All of the schools start new semesters around the end of August," said Ms. Nancy Tran-Horne, the Directory of Academic Supervision for ERAU. "But we all offer online courses that run throughout the year."

The Air Force Sergeant's Association Chapter 1669, from RAF Lakenheath, provided hot dogs for the fair as one of their "Americanism" activities. These types of activities are reported to AFSA headquarters to show community involvement.

"Promoting education is very important to AFSA," said Tech. Sgt. Ellis Franks, former president of the chapter and 2009 United States Air Forces in Europe AFSA Member of the Year. "We sponsor activities for Airman to show them they have something to do. Promoting the new [Post 9-11] G.I. Bill is very important right now."

"We encourage all Airmen to stop in anytime to learn about grants, financial aid and school programs," said Ms. Kuhns.

The education center is open Mondays through Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Building 427. For more information call DSN 238-2115.
