RAF Mildenhall helped clean up the local community Sept. 26 when 70 volunteers took part in the "Big Tidy-Up" around the exterior of the base perimeter fence.

Volunteers were from squadrons all around RAF Mildenhall and donned gloves and tabards to pick up rubbish on both sides of the road, from Shippea Hill Gate up to the industrial estate in Mildenhall.

The Big Tidy Up is a campaign running around England throughout September, and is the country's biggest ever clean-up.

Within Forest Heath District Council, the aim of the campaign is to encourage people to participate in local clean-up events across the district, to reduce litter and improve the local environment.

"I was amazed at the amount of volunteers we gathered, and their enthusiasm for this event and the community itself," said Master Sgt. Beau Jones, 100th Force Support Squadron first sergeant.

Approximately 65 bags of trash were collected, weighing a total of 1200 pounds.
