Ely Cathedral Boys' Choir to perform at RAF Mildenhall Chapel Sunday Published May 28, 2008 By Staff Reports 100th Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs Office RAF MILDENHALL, England -- The Ely Cathedral Boys' Choir will perform during two worship services at the RAF Mildenhall Chapel June 1. Invited by the chapel, the choir will perform during the 9:30 a.m. Protestant service and again at the 11 a.m. Catholic Mass. According to Staff Sgt. Lyle Ruthford, 100th Air Refueling Wing Chapel readiness and training NCOIC, anyone who has access to be on base can attend the service. Laura Kunkle, whose son sings with the choir, said it's the first time they've performed at one of the bases. "It would be very nice to have people outside the regular chapel congregation attend," Mrs. Kunkle said. "It's a rare visit and the choir is a real treat to hear." The history of the choir dates as far back as the 15th century, and children must pass an audition before they can become members. The Ely Cathedral Boys' Choir consists of up to 22 boys between 8 and 13. Following the audition, the boys must gain admittance into The King's School, a boarding school in Ely with a curriculum geared toward developing children's musical and artistic talents as well as their academic skills.
