Volunteers needed for Earth Week events

RAF MILDENHALL, England -- Earth Week is at the end of April and volunteers are needed to organize and to help in a wide variety of events being put on to celebrate, both on base and in the local community. 
In addition to a variety of conservation projects, other events are also being organized for Earth Week.

Volunteers are required for all events; details and points of contact are listed below:

Conservation projects
- West Stow Anglo Saxon village and nature reserve - April 19. Families welcome. Point of contact, Hazel Neal, 226-2620.
- Clean-up of Maid's Cross Hill (Site of Special Scientific Interest adjacent to RAF Lakenheath) - April 19, 9 a.m. to noon. Families welcome. POC, Dave Nutt, 238-5836.
- Forest clean-up (near Weeting); picking up litter along a bridle path on the edge of Thetford Forest - April 20. POC, Tech. Sgt. Christopher Egbert, 226-5422.
- Garden clean-up and replanting at the Child Development Center West, RAF Lakenheath - POC, Sergeant Egbert, 226-5422.
- Tree rescue at Moreton Hall, Bury St. Edmunds - April 27, 9:30 a.m. to noon. POC, Jean Dennett, 226-3990.

Schools events
- Lakenheath Elementary School - Pond dipping, POCs, Airman Danny Atcitty, 226-3552 and Tech. Sgt. Lorraine DeTaeye, 226-2888.
- Lakenheath Intermediate School - Poster and poetry competition; decorating grocery bags for use in the commissary; tours of the recycling and waste water treatment plant at RAF Lakenheath. POCs, Tech. Sgt. Marlon Tacala, 226-1495 and Staff Sgt. Christian Strohecker, 226-2220.
- Lakenheath Middle School - Tree planting by pupils

Other events

- Base clean-up day - April 21 (tentative).
- Green-wheel day - April 22 (tentative); car share or walk to work.
- Recycling competition - April 25 (tentative); possible inter-squadron competition at each base; can recycling, to be weighed at the end of Earth Week. POCs, Dave Nutt, 238-5836 and Bob Pool, 238-5551.

- Bike discount and auto hobby offers - 10-percent on all purchases during Earth Week.
- CDC storytime - Reading short stories to CDC classes. POC, Sergeant Egbert, 226-5422.
- Earth Week fair - April 26, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at RAF Lakenheath BX. Displays and booths from local environmental groups will be on display. POC, Hazel Neal, 226-2620
