Family members of deployed personnel invited to spring festival Published March 10, 2008 By Karen Abeyasekere 100th Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs RAF MILDENHALL, England -- A Hearts Apart Spring Festival, including a barbecue, Easter egg hunt, games and bouncy castles, is being held for spouses and children of deployed members March 15 from noon to 4 p.m. at Heritage Park. Families of deployed members from RAFs Marham and Honington are also invited to the event. "We've held (joint) events with RAF Marham since the middle of last year - this is our third event together," said Tech. Sgt. Will Dominy, 100th Mission Support Squadron Airman & Family Readiness Center readiness NCO. "Both wing and unit leadership will be attending the spring festival, as they do for every Hearts Apart event," said Sergeant Dominy. "It gives commanders and first sergeants an opportunity to meet with the families in their units. The Hearts Apart events are an opportunity to improve the quality of life for deployed families, giving spouses a chance to interact with other deployed spouses, letting them share similarities, tools and tips, and gives children a chance to have fun, Sergeant Dominy said. "When Vicky (Stayton) and I came up with the idea of having (families) from RAFs Marham and Honington participate in our events, our thought was to establish a true sense of community with our thought was to establish a true sense of community with our host nation," he said. "It also allows (English) families to share local tips which may help our spouses get by in a different country. Through this, our attempt is to create an everlasting relationship for our deployed families and for Team Mildenhall." WHAT TO KNOW: The event, hosted by the Airman & Family Readiness Center, is free and is open to all RAF Mildenhall families of deployed members; the deadline for sign-up is March 11.
